Missouri Statewide Course Redesign Initiative Improves Learning Outcomes and Reduces Costs

Using Pearson's MyLab and Mastering, Consortium of Universities successfully redesigns high-enrollment, entry-level undergraduate courses

Boston, MA | August 13, 2013

From 2010 to 2013, the Governor of Missouri and Missouri's public four-year institutions established a major course redesign initiative, in partnership with the National Center for Academic Transformation (NCAT), built on the successful models and lessons learned from NCAT's course redesign programs. The goal was to achieve improvements in learning outcomes as well as reductions in instructional costs by redesigning large-enrollment, multi-section courses using technology-supported active learning strategies.

With help from Pearson's MyLab and Mastering suite of online homework, tutorial, and assessment programs, 100 percent of the redesigns that leveraged Pearson technology improved student learning — Lincoln University; Missouri University of Science & Technology; Missouri State University; University of Central Missouri; University of Missouri – Kansas City; and University of Missouri – St. Louis. All but one project reduced their instructional costs — by an average of 30 percent.
